- Reuters reported on the need for Ukraine to purchase $1 billion worth of gas for the winter
Ukraine will need to purchase gas worth up to $1 billion to meet the needs of the population for the upcoming heating season, the Reuters news agency reported on September 17.
Yuriy Boyko, a member of the supervisory board of the national energy company Ukrenergo, told the media that the country now has about 11 billion cubic meters of gas, which is more than 80% of the planned volume of 13.2 billion cubic meters.
"It (gas imports. — ed.) will cost from $ 500 million to $1 billion," the publication says.
In turn, the former head of the Operator of the Gas Transportation System of Ukraine, Sergei Makogon, recalled that last heating season the country had stored 12.8 billion cubic meters of gas for the winter, and they were not enough.
On September 1, the media reported that gas reserves in Ukraine had decreased significantly since last summer. For the stable passage of the heating season, the country needs about 10 billion cubic meters of "free" gas. Then it was noted that Ukraine lacks about a third of this volume — 3.5 billion cubic meters.
