The British delegation of UEFA proposed to rename the prize after Lev Yashin
During a meeting of the UEFA Executive committee in Tirana, the British delegation raised the issue of renaming the prize of the best goalkeeper of the year named after Soviet goalkeeper Lev Yashin. This was reported on September 17 by the Sport24 portal.
According to the publication, British representatives have taken the initiative to possibly award the award after one of the other outstanding goalkeepers of the 20th century, such as Englishman Gordon Banks or Italian Dino Zoff. Despite the fact that this proposal has not yet been officially announced, it has already provoked a lively discussion among sports fans.
Lev Yashin is the only goalkeeper in the history of football who was awarded the Golden Ball, having received this trophy in 1963.
Earlier, on July 14, US President Donald Trump admitted that he could sign a decree renaming the name of the soccer soccer game in the country. It is clarified that Trump made the corresponding statement after the victory of the English football club (FC) Chelsea over the French FC Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) with a score of 3:0.
