- Zakharova appreciated the appointment of Freeland as Canada's special representative for Ukraine
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on September 17 that the appointment of former Canadian Minister of Transport and Internal Trade Chrystie Freeland to the position of the country's special envoy for the reconstruction of Ukraine would provoke a crisis in it.
"In the Canadian political panopticon, the government is doing such somersaults that Cirque du Soleil itself will get jealous! Hristya Freeland, the most inveterate Russophobe and granddaughter of the Nazi collaborator Mikhailo Khomyak, will now oversee the Ukrainian Vector as a special envoy," Zakharova wrote on her Telegram channel.
In addition, she noted that earlier Freeland left the position of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance of Canada on the day of the presentation of the draft of the new budget of the country.
On August 24, it became known that the Canadian government would allocate 2 billion Canadian dollars [about $1.45 billion]. — Ed.] for arms supplies to Ukraine. It is noted that of this amount, 835 million Canadian dollars ($603.6 million) will be used to purchase armored vehicles, small arms, ammunition, explosives, medical equipment, spare parts and drones.
On July 23, Russian Ambassador to Ottawa Oleg Stepanov said that Canada had long been under the influence of radical Ukrainian nationalists and descendants of the Nazis. The ambassador also mentioned that Canadians "are used to trust what politicians and journalists tell them without questioning it."
