At the Moscow 2030 forum, children created a cartoon about the polar bear Tolpei

About 200 children have created an animated film about the polar bear Terpei, an inhabitant of the Moscow Zoo, which is under the care of the mayor's My Neighborhood program. This was told by the organizers of the forum "Territory of the Future. Moscow 2030".

The guests of the event worked on the cartoon at master classes in the park of the 50th anniversary of October. It took about 120 hours to create the project. The children wrote a story about a bear's journey from Kazan to Moscow, made three main characters and about 20 secondary characters out of wool, built 11 mock-ups of various locations using foam, cardboard, and plasticine. In total, about 1,9 thousand frames were shot.

"This project is especially dear to us because it tells the true story of the polar bear Alexey, from being rescued in harsh Yakutia to moving to our Moscow Zoo. It is extremely important for me that the younger generation, through creativity and kindness, learn the value of protecting rare species," said Svetlana Akulova, General Director of the Moscow Zoo.

The children's animation project has become part of the educational program of the Moscow 2030 Forum, aimed, among other things, at environmental education of the younger generation.

The polar bear Terpey was born in Yakutia, however, as a baby, he lost his mother. He was rescued by a local resident and handed over to the zoo, but there were no conditions for keeping the bear there and he was sent to Perm, then to Rostov-on-Don, then to Kazan. In 2024, he moved to the Moscow Zoo, where he lives in an aviary with a swimming pool and a snow slide.
