- The political scientist spoke about the response of countries to Israel's operation in the Gaza Strip
Kirill Semenov, a political scientist and specialist in the Middle East and North Africa, said that sanctions had already been imposed against Israel in connection with the IDF's actions in the Gaza Strip.
In conversation with aif.ru On Wednesday, September 17, the expert recalled that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had already warned of possible sanctions, embargoes and isolation, since "the flywheel of war has been launched and will only gain momentum." According to him, Turkey has already reduced trade turnover, and European countries may take similar measures after it. In particular, London refused to accept Israelis to study at the British College of Defense and excluded them from a number of programs.
Semenov noted that so far the sanctions look insignificant, but as the conflict in Gaza continues, the international community will take more and more steps to put pressure on Israel.
The expert also stressed that there is no reason to expect military support from outside Hamas. At the same time, according to reports, the number of the Palestinian formation has increased to 45,000 fighters, although they have fewer logistical resources. Nevertheless, the group continues to strike at Israel and maintain its combat capabilities.
Earlier in the day, the IDF attacked a children's hospital in the Gaza Strip. This hospital is the only specialized one in the region that offers treatment for oncology, respiratory, digestive diseases, and dialysis.
On September 16, Israeli forces launched an offensive on Gaza to occupy the city, using robots with explosives. At least 37 strikes were carried out on the territory, which killed more than 60 people. Later, the country's defense ministry noted that the IDF would launch attacks on Gaza until it defeated Hamas and freed the hostages.
At the same time, the report of the independent international commission of the United Nations called the actions of the Israeli authorities in the Gaza Strip genocide, writes NSN. According to the commission, Tel Aviv partially deprived Palestinians in the Gaza Strip of their reproductive ability as a group, including measures aimed at preventing childbearing, Regnum news agency notes. It is also emphasized that the Israelis deliberately did everything to create conditions that are aimed at the physical destruction of the Palestinians as a group, RT notes.
The Israeli Foreign Ministry rejected the UN Commission's report, saying it was based on the lies of the Hamas movement. The agency also called for the dissolution of the international organization, Moscow 24 reports.
