- The strongest prayer to the Mother of God: what and how to ask the Virgin Mary for
Every year on September 21, Orthodox believers celebrate the Nativity of the Virgin Mary, one of the most important church holidays of the year. This day commemorates the birth of the Virgin Mary and the miraculous events that preceded it. What to pray for during the bright celebration, read in the Izvestia article.
What to pray to the Virgin Mary on the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin
The Nativity of the Virgin Mary is one of the twelve feasts associated with the life of Christ and the Virgin Mary. This is the first big celebration of the liturgical year after the New Year (September 14). Services are held in churches, and the clergy wear blue robes — a symbol of the purity and purity of the Virgin Mary.
On the feast of the Nativity of the Virgin, as on any other day, believers can pray to the Mother of God for anything, because she is the main intercessor of humanity before God. They turn to her for help in difficult situations and for comfort in grief. Nevertheless, there are several topics that are most often mentioned in the prayers on September 21.
What do Theotokos pray for at Christmas?:
- prayers for the health and well-being of children, healing from diseases;
- prayers for the birth of children and family happiness;
- prayers for protection from enemies, support in difficult situations, and the eradication of injustice;
- prayers for strengthening faith, helping to eradicate sins, and returning to the right path;
- penitential prayers, including for Christian death and salvation of the soul.
Which icon should we pray to the Mother of God in front of?
There are several hundred different icons of the Mother of God in the world. 260 miraculous images of the Virgin Mary are venerated in the Russian Orthodox Church alone. In this regard, many people have a question — which icon should they pray in front of.
On the Nativity of the Virgin, it will be appropriate to read a prayer in front of the icon of the feast. However, as noted by the clergy, you can pray to the Mother of God in front of any of her icons. The fact is that a person does not turn to a specific image, but to the Most Pure Virgin herself, who hears everyone, regardless of the circumstances.
Nevertheless, there are stories in church tradition in which the Mother of God herself appeared to the sick and suffering to point them to this or that icon, and after prayer they received healing, got rid of addictions, and gained new life orientations. Individual icons of the Virgin Mary (for example, Vladimirskaya, Smolenskaya) are associated with salvation from epidemics and invaders of entire cities. Therefore, some images have become "specialized" — they are more likely to ask for help in certain situations. However, this does not mean that believers cannot pray for something else.
What do they pray for in front of the icons of the Mother of God?
- "Joy to All who Grieve" is about the resolution of injustice, the salvation of the innocently convicted, and protection from enemies;
- The Burning Bush — about protection from fires, lightning, and natural disasters;
- The Inexhaustible Chalice — about healing from addictions;
- Vsetsarina — about cancer treatment;
- Healer — about the recovery of patients;
- Vladimirskaya — about salvation from invaders, strengthening faith;
- Kazanskaya is about healing from blindness and other eye diseases, and getting married.
The most powerful prayer to the Mother of God
On the day of the Nativity of the Mother of God, believers can pray to the Mother of God in any way they can. Therefore, you can address the Mother of God in your own words or use a prayer book.
Prayer for the Nativity of the Virgin from the Akathist
"O Most Holy and God-chosen Virgin, to our Lady Theotokos, Queen of heaven and earth, for the joy and consolation of the whole world from barren and childless parents, bestowed by God! Having been born by God's providence, You resolved the infertility of those who gave birth to You, and now make my barren heart fruitful by Your intercession at the Throne of the Almighty, and make me barren with evil deeds, rotten words, and unclean thoughts. O All-blessed One, may the child of God appear, bearing everlasting fruitfulness of virtues. With Your most pure Nativity, You have quenched the weeping of our forefather Eve, and Your righteous parents have delivered you from the reproaches of childlessness, and now you have quenched the weeping and sighing of my many-painful and sinful soul and deliver us all from the reproach of our evil deeds, the passions of dishonor and from every enslavement of the enemy. Above all, grant us, O Most Holy Virgin Theotokos, on the all-bright day of Thy Nativity, to understand and remember with a pure heart, with great joy and thanksgiving, the barren womb of holy righteous Anna that bears Thee, so that we too may not take out our words, but rather our deeds, glorifying Thee with a tender heart, crying out: Glory to Thy coming, Pure One. Glory to Your Christmas. Glory to Your virginity, Mother of No Birth. Together with You, grant us to unceasingly glorify and magnify Your All-holy Fruit, the Word incarnate, immeasurably borne in Your womb, to whom glory, honor and worship are due, together with His Beginningless Father, and with His All-holy, Good and Life-giving Spirit, now and ever and unto the ages of ages. Amen to that."
Another prayer for the Nativity of the Virgin
"O Most Holy Lady, God-chosen Mother of Christ our Saviour, begged of God through holy prayers, consecrated to God and beloved by God! Who won't please You or who won't sing Your Merry Christmas. For Thy Nativity was the beginning of the salvation of men, and we, who sit in the darkness of transgressions, see Thee, the dwelling place of Unapproachable Light. For this reason, a living language cannot praise You according to Your heritage. For thou art exalted above all Seraphim, O Most Pure One. Accept the present praise from Your unworthy servants, and do not reject our supplications. We confess Your greatness, we bow down to You in tenderness, and we ask your child-loving and diligent Mother to intercede boldly: beseech Your Son and our God to grant us, who sin many things, sincere repentance and a pious life, so that we may be able to do everything pleasing to God and useful to our souls. Let us hate all evil, strengthened by Divine grace in our good will. You are our shameless hope in the hour of death, grant us a Christian end, a comfortable procession through the terrible ordeals of the air, and a legacy of eternal and ineffable blessings of the Kingdom of Heaven, so that with all the saints we may unceasingly confess Your intercession for us and glorify the one True God, worshipped in the Holy Trinity, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen to that."
