In the first week of September, the number of referrals with SARS symptoms increased by 18% compared to the previous week, and in the second week of September, the increase was already 21%. Ekaterina Boldyreva, an infectious disease specialist and pediatrician at the Sberbank Health medical company, told Izvestia on September 17.

"Indeed, autumn is the traditional period of increasing SARS incidence. This is due to many factors: a decrease in ambient temperature contributes to better preservation and spread of viruses in cold, dry air, the beginning of the heating season dries out the nasal mucous membranes, reducing their protective functions, and spending more time indoors facilitates the spread of pathogenic agents," she said.

The doctor spoke in detail about preventive measures, among which vaccination against influenza, pneumococcal and coronavirus infections occupies a key place, especially for the elderly and patients with chronic diseases.

Boldyreva also recommended regular physical activity (150-300 minutes per week), balanced nutrition based on the "Harvard plate" principle, high-quality sleep lasting 7-8 hours in properly organized conditions and maintaining an optimal microclimate in rooms with a humidity of 50-60%.

The specialist paid special attention to the importance of timely medical treatment.

"If a person gets sick, it is optimal to stay at home and see a doctor. Only a doctor can determine the correct therapy, therefore, if any symptoms of the disease occur, you should immediately seek medical help," the specialist said.

Treatment of acute respiratory viral infections is aimed at relieving symptoms and includes a rest regime, increased fluid intake, the use of saline solution for nasal passages and taking antipyretic drugs as prescribed by a doctor.

On September 8, a flu vaccination campaign was launched in Moscow. Mobile vaccination points are located at metro, MCC, and MCD stations. Anyone can get vaccinated at any time if they wish.
