Passenger Car Manufacturing JSC (PLA), which owns the Volga brand and has access to the assembly line of the GAZ automobile plant in Nizhny Novgorod, where Volkswagen cars were assembled until 2022, said it was not negotiating with Geely. At the same time, according to the sources of the publication, Geely still plans to launch the production of models at the Nizhny Novgorod enterprise.

Potential models for the assembly line are the Monjaro crossover and the Emgrand sedan — the automaker is interested in the mass segment of both the taxi and crossover niche, given that the Monjaro is popular in the Russian market. A larger Preface sedan is also allowed to appear on the assembly line.

At the same time, the PLA stated that it allows for such options as the development of its own platform, cooperation with suppliers of aggregates and components, and cooperation with a foreign automaker.

"The decision in favor of one scenario or another will be made on the basis of a comprehensive technical and economic analysis, taking into account forecasts for the development of the car market in Russia," the PLA said.

The Telegram channel "Russian Automobile etc" was the first to announce in early September that cars of the revived Volga brand are being created in collaboration with Geely. According to an insider, a Volga office will open in Moscow very soon, and employees have already been recruited. The presentation of the project will also take place soon.
