More than 400,000 Palestinians fled Gaza City before the start of the IDF offensive
About 400,000 Palestinians managed to leave the territory of Gaza City before Israel launched an expanded ground offensive on the capital of the Middle Eastern enclave. This was reported on September 17 by The Times of Israel newspaper.
It is specified that by the time Israel announced preparations for the assault, about 1 million people lived in the capital of the Gaza Strip.
At the same time, due to traffic jams and congestion caused by the large number of residents leaving their homes, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced the opening of a second evacuation route along the main highway of the city.
On September 16, Israel launched a ground operation to occupy Gaza City. It is accompanied by massive strikes throughout the enclave. Later, the country's defense ministry noted that the IDF would strike Gaza until it defeated Hamas and freed the hostages. At the same time, the UN Commission of Inquiry into the events in the Occupied Palestinian Territories and Israel recognized Tel Aviv's actions in the Gaza Strip as genocide.
