Some European Union (EU) countries may not support the restrictions imposed by the European Commission (EC) on Israel. This was reported by the Politico newspaper on September 17, citing sources.

"A number of other countries, including Italy, Poland, Germany, Hungary and Austria, also refused to support measures to punish Israel," the article says.

According to the publication, the refusal of countries from the imposed measures can be considered complicity in accordance with the Genocide Convention. It is noted that this may encourage more European governments to support EU sanctions against the Israeli side.

On September 16, Israel launched a ground operation to occupy Gaza City. It is accompanied by massive strikes throughout the enclave. Later, the country's defense ministry noted that the IDF would strike Gaza until it defeated Hamas and freed the hostages. At the same time, the UN Commission of Inquiry into the events in the Occupied Palestinian Territories and Israel recognized Tel Aviv's actions in the Gaza Strip as genocide.

On the same day, European Commission spokeswoman Paula Pinho announced that the European Commissioners would adopt a package of measures against Israel. The restrictions will include the suspension of certain trade agreements between the country and the EU. According to the newspaper Les Echos, a number of EU member states, including France, are ready to support restrictions on Israel against the background of the military operation.
