Inclusive spartakiad "Match of Kindness" started in Dagestan
On September 16, Dagestan hosted the inclusive Unified mini-football Spartakiad. The Match of Kindness brought together more than 400 athletes, 300 of them with intellectual disabilities, but all play in the same team. The age of the participants is from nine to 55 years old.
"We have a lot of participants — these are those who live in boarding schools without parents. And it is very important for them to take part in these competitions. There are athletes who flew in airplanes for the first time, they saw the sea for the first time. It's a lifelong memory for them. We socialized our children through sports," said Egor Lebedev, General Director of the Russian Special Olympics.
The Spartakiad will last until September 19, and each participant will receive awards in these competitions.
"Athletes with intellectual disabilities and their partners will demonstrate to all of us that through joint sports activities, barriers of social inequality are erased. Even under the most difficult circumstances, sport allows our athletes to become stronger and achieve success not only in competitions, but also in life," said Olga Slutsker, President of the Russian Special Olympics.
On July 6, North Ossetia hosted the international junior freestyle wrestling tournament "The Power of Russia" on the initiative of State Duma deputy, three-time Olympic champion Artur Taymazov and with the support of the Taymazov Team Freestyle Wrestling Club (the Taymazov Brothers Freestyle Wrestling Club). 72 young athletes from North Ossetia, Dagestan, Kabardino-Balkaria, Krasnodar Territory, Chechnya and Armenia participated in the competition.
