Leonid Mikhno, former vice-president of the Russian Hockey Federation, Honored Coach of Russia and Honored Worker of Physical Culture and Sports, died at the age of 79. This was announced on September 16 by the press service of the FHR.
"Leonid Mikhno, Honored Coach of Russia, Honored Worker of Physical Culture and Sports, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, professor, full member of the Petrovsky Academy of Sciences and Arts, died at the age of 79," the organization's website says.
The federation noted that Mikhno has left a bright mark in the history of Russian sports and education. It is indicated that he has been associated with hockey for decades, having begun to develop it in the 1980s.
Leonid Mikhno was born on August 7, 1947 in the city of Kotovsk, Tambov region. Mikhno was also the founder of the Hockey Veterans Association and the Troika Sports Club, the General director of SKA-Hockey CJSC, the general manager of the Russian national teams and the president of the Northwestern Interregional Hockey Federation. Also, from 2003 to 2022, the coach headed the Department of Hockey Theory and Methodology at the P. F. Lesgaft National University.
