On Sunday, September 19, residents of the European part of Russia will be able to observe a unique astronomical phenomenon — the moon covering Venus. The brightest planet in the night sky will completely disappear behind the Earth's satellite, and then it will shine again. Izvestia tells you when to watch the eclipse of Venus and how it affects a person.

The eclipse of Venus on September 19, 2025

In addition to the two "classic" solar and lunar eclipses, a more "exotic" eclipse of Venus is expected in the first month of autumn. On September 19, the Moon, Venus and the brightest star in the constellation Leo, Regulus, will be very close to each other. In some regions, including the European part of Russia, the trajectories of the Earth satellite and the "planet of love" will intersect, which is why the latter will briefly disappear from view.

During the eclipse, the moon will be illuminated by only 5%, which will provide ideal conditions for observing Venus and Regulus. At the same time, due to the proximity of the new moon, the dark part of our planet's satellite will remain visible — it will glow with a subdued grayish light. Astronomers call this phenomenon the ashen light of the moon.

One of the most noticeable objects in the sky on September 19 will be Venus, which will reach a brightness of -3.9 magnitude. Regulus will be able to boast a brightness of 1.4 magnitude. Both objects will be clearly visible even to the naked eye.

The eclipse of Venus in September 2025 — at what time, where will it be visible

The eclipse of Venus will begin at 15:18 Moscow time and last until 16:13 Moscow time. You can watch it right in the bright sky. The planet will disappear behind the illuminated edge of the moon and reappear from behind its dark edge.

The phenomenon will be clearly visible in the European part of Russia (Moscow and the Moscow region, St. Petersburg, Vladimir, Kaluga, Ryazan, Smolensk, Tula, Murmansk and other regions), Europe, Canada, Greenland, as well as some countries in Asia, Africa and the northern part of South America.

In all other regions, on September 19, it will be possible to observe the convergence of the Moon, Venus and Regulus.

How to watch the eclipse of Venus on September 19th

The eclipse of Venus on September 19 will take place during the daytime, when the sun has not yet set below the horizon. However, the main characters of the event, the Moon and Venus, are bright enough to be seen in a bright sky under favorable weather conditions. To do this, you need:

  • find a place that provides a good view of the sky and shelter from the sun;
  • get up so that the sun is behind an object (tree, building, canopy, etc.);
  • find a bright white dot next to the moon (you can use special applications for this) and wait for the eclipse to begin.

Although the Moon and Venus will be visible without special devices, astronomers recommend taking binoculars or a telescope with you — they will greatly facilitate observation.

The eclipse of Venus and the September eclipse corridor — human impact

The eclipse corridor is the time period between the two closest eclipses, solar and lunar, which always follow each other. Its average duration is 14-16 days, but in some cases it can stretch up to a month. The eclipse corridor "opens" 2-3 times a year, when the Sun, Earth and Moon are approximately on the same trajectory near the lunar node (the point of intersection of the Moon's orbit with the plane of the Earth's orbit).

In 2025, the autumn eclipse corridor will last from September 7 to September 21 and will also capture the moment when the Moon covers Venus.

From a scientific point of view, the eclipse of Venus, the eclipse corridor and other astronomical phenomena do not affect people's lives in any way. However, astrologers attach special importance to them. It is believed that this is a time of drastic changes, insights, and a reassessment of plans and guidelines. At the same time, it is possible to increase negative emotional states and exacerbate conflicts.

In astrology, Venus is associated with love, passion and tenderness. The eclipse of Venus on September 19th is a chance to understand your true feelings. This phenomenon helps to return to your inner self, lost in a series of everyday life. Such a change can also affect interaction with others, as it often leads to a review of relationships. Some unions only become stronger after that, while others, on the contrary, fall apart.

What not to do during the September Eclipse Corridor

  • Making important decisions, changing jobs and places of residence can have unpredictable consequences.;
  • make large purchases — they can disappoint;
  • breaking off relationships, quarreling with loved ones — a conflict that has flared up on emotions can bring a lot of pain to all participants.;
  • neglecting health, disrupting sleep and rest patterns can lead to exhaustion.

Earlier, Izvestia reported on the features of a total lunar eclipse.
