Britain condemns the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) offensive on Gaza City, saying the attack is "reckless and horrific." This was announced on September 16 by British Foreign Minister Yvette Cooper.

"The new IDF offensive in Gaza is extremely reckless and terrifying. This will only lead to more bloodshed, the death of more innocent civilians and endanger the remaining hostages," Cooper said on her page on the social network X (ex. Twitter).

She stressed that it is necessary to immediately cease fire, release all hostages and allow unrestricted humanitarian access to residents of the Gaza Strip. This is the only way to a lasting peace, said the head of the British Foreign Ministry.

European Commission spokeswoman Paula Pinho announced on the same day that the European commissioners would adopt a package of measures against Israel on Wednesday, September 17. According to her, the restrictions will include the suspension of certain trade agreements between Israel and the European Union (EU). On the same day, the UN Commission of Inquiry into the events in the Occupied Palestinian Territories and Israel recognized Tel Aviv's actions in the Gaza Strip as genocide.

On September 16, Israel launched a ground operation to occupy Gaza City. It is accompanied by massive strikes throughout the enclave. Later, the country's defense ministry noted that the IDF would strike Gaza until it defeated Hamas and freed the hostages.
