Google fired more than 200 employees dissatisfied with the working conditions of AI
More than 200 employees who worked on evaluating and improving products based on artificial intelligence (AI) of the American corporation Google were fired without warning. This was reported by Wired magazine on September 15.
According to employees, the latest cuts come amid attempts to quell their protests caused by problems such as low wages and lack of job guarantees. It is noted that these conditions have affected the morale of employees and jeopardized their ability to do their job well.
In the past few years, Google has outsourced its AI assessment work, which includes analyzing, editing, or modifying Gemini chatbot responses, to thousands of contractors working at GlobalLogic, owned by Japanese company Hitachi, and other outsourcing companies.
"They just turned me off <...> I asked the reason, and they replied, "curtailing the project" — whatever that means," the newspaper quotes the words of fired employee Andrew Lauzon.
At the same time, he claims that this year GlobalLogic began to regularly lay off its employees.
"How can we feel safe in this job if we know that we can be fired at any moment?" he concluded.
On August 28, it was reported that Microsoft fired two of its employees because of their participation in rallies against the organization's cooperation with Israel. It was clarified that the specialists were removed from their posts after allegedly serious violations of the company's policy and the organization's code of conduct caused by "hacking into management offices."
