- Italy has decided to extradite a Ukrainian suspected of blowing up a joint venture to Germany.
A court in Italy has ordered the extradition to Germany of Ukrainian citizen Sergei Kuznetsov, suspected of blowing up the Nord Stream gas pipeline, the German n-tv channel reported on September 16.
"The Italian judicial authorities have given the go-ahead for the extradition of the 49-year-old Ukrainian to the German authorities, as confirmed by his lawyer. The date of extradition has not yet been set," the article says.
It is noted that the decision of the Bologna Court can be appealed to the Court of Cassation, the highest court in Italy.
Kuznetsov was detained in Italy at the request of Germany on August 21. Later it became known that he was the head of the group that installed explosive devices on the pipelines. The German Prosecutor General's Office declined to comment on his extradition from Italy, and German Foreign Minister Johann Vadefuhl said the investigation could lead to political conclusions.
On August 27, Die Zeit newspaper reported that German investigators had probably identified all the saboteurs involved in the attack on the gas pipelines. Law enforcement officers also identified links between part of the crew used to attack the yacht and the Ukrainian special services or the military.
On September 8, Die Welt newspaper reported that the perpetrators of the pipeline explosion acted on the instructions of the former Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) By Valery Zaluzhny. According to the newspaper, German investigators are convinced that they have solved the case. The newspaper's article also emphasizes that the media reported on the presence of "numerous proofs" of the involvement of the Ukrainian authorities in the attack on Nord Streams.
