The court sent criminal boss Vasily Bandit under house arrest
Criminal boss Vasily Bandit (real name Igor Kokunov), accused of occupying the highest position in the criminal hierarchy, was placed under house arrest. This was announced on September 16 by a correspondent of Izvestia.
It is noted that the Moscow Regional Court changed the measure of restraint due to the deterioration of Kokunov's health.
The Bandit received his first sentence of 15 years for theft. He was subsequently sentenced to imprisonment on more serious charges. At the same time, a criminal case was initiated against the defendant under Article 210.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Occupying the highest position in the criminal hierarchy").
Kokunov was arrested in June 2020. According to investigators, Kokunov held the title of a thief in law and had been promoting a criminal subculture since 1993. The man was repeatedly convicted of theft, robbery, extortion and robbery.
The investigation into the case was completed at the end of April 2021, and then the court placed Kokunov under house arrest. In February 2022, the day before the new meeting, he took off his bracelet and ran away. In 2023, the man was put on the international wanted list, and later he was detained at a checkpoint between Albania and Montenegro on an Interpol warrant. In the fall of 2024, Kokunov was extradited to Russia.
