Vucic thanked the SVR for warning about the preparation of the "Serbian Maidan"

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic thanked the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) for warning about the upcoming "color revolution" in the country by the European Union on the anniversary of the tragic events in Novi Sad on November 1. This was reported on September 16 by the Serbian news agency Tanjug.

"I have no doubt that the organizers of the color revolution cannot just give up. Too much money has been invested. Therefore, they will have to make a last attempt to seize power by force. We are ready for this, we have been ready for a long time. <...> We were probably caught off guard in December, January and partly in February, but since then we are much more prepared, and everything is different," Vucic said on air.

According to the Serbian president, the SVR is one of the largest and most influential services, every statement of which is taken into account.

Earlier, on September 15, the press bureau of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) stated that the riots in Serbia involving young people are largely related to the subversive activities of the European Union, whose goal is to bring loyal leadership to power. According to the report, the EU's goals were not achieved due to the strong patriotic sentiments in Serbian society and the lingering memory of the historical past.

Earlier, on September 13, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic told reporters at a meeting in Banica that the "color revolution" in Serbia had failed and the people needed to take steps towards reconciliation.

The anti-government protests, which are attended by the Serbian opposition, began after 15 people died in November 2024 as a result of the collapse of a canopy at the railway station in Novi Sad. The protesters blocked bridges and roads. On July 4, Vucic called on those who took to the streets not to block the city, threatening to use counteraction measures, but since August 2025, street riots have become especially widespread and violent.
