- Freedom Finance called a lawsuit against KazTAG the only way to protect itself from fakes
Freedom Finance commented on the filing of a lawsuit for the protection of honor and dignity against the Kazakh edition of KazTAG (Kazakhstan Telegraph Agency). The Izvestia company stated that filing a lawsuit was the only possible way to protect its business reputation from fakes and planned information attacks.
"Everyone has the right to their own opinion, and we understand that we cannot please everyone. But KazTAG's publications go far beyond value judgments. We see the systematic use of false information, manipulative presentation and direct accusations that have no factual basis," said the representative of Freedom Finance.
Earlier, the company's lawyer, Alexander Kamendrovsky, emphasized in a comment to AiF Kazakhstan that attempts had already been made to resolve the conflict in a pre-trial manner, but the KazTAG editorial board refused to engage in dialogue.
Political scientist Eduard Poletaev, for his part, added that the problem of fakes and information wars is acute in Kazakhstan. According to him, the situation in local media today is complicated not only by the growth of fakes, but also by the general commercialization of the information space. The media, bloggers and online platforms are increasingly acting out of a desire to make money, the expert notes.
As political scientist Marat Shibutov explains, Kazakhstan's law enforcement agencies act strictly within the legal framework — responding to such statements in a timely manner.
"The state reacts according to current legislation, both through administrative and criminal penalties, and also through working with the media and social networks," Kursiv quotes him.
On November 25, the Alma Ata police launched investigative actions following a statement from Freedom Finance, which accused KazTAG of distributing materials containing deliberately false information and damaging its business reputation. According to media reports, the lawsuit for the protection of business reputation was filed in August of this year. KazTAG editor-in-chief Amir Kasenov and KazTAG CEO Asset Matayev have been recognized as suspects in the libel case.
