Rusal and Metal Profile have launched a production experiment: the production of building materials from aluminum alloys at the plant's facilities in the Moscow region. The results were reported in the press service of the aluminum manufacturer.

The Metal Profile enterprise, a company that produces building materials from sheet steel, produced trial batches of 12 aluminum tape items, including facade cassettes, siding, roofing, metal tiles, and fencing. Production was successful, and some types of building materials did not even require additional equipment, Rusal noted.

Metal Profile has started laboratory and field tests of its products. After their successful completion, the company will be able to switch to industrial production.

Rusal provided the necessary amount of material for the production of building materials for the project. Specialists from the company's Directorate for the development of the domestic market and the Institute of Light Materials and Technologies have selected an aluminum alloy, the tape from which is best suited for the production of the widest possible range.

"The growth in demand for many aluminum products, including in the construction industry, is being held back by a lack of production capacity and supply. This year, aluminum solutions began to penetrate the segment of individual housing construction, and in some areas we see a serious lag between supply and demand," said Evgeny Vasiliev, Director of Market Development at Rusal.

Maxim Lopatin, Marketing Director of Metal Profile, added that the launch of aluminum construction materials will significantly increase the product line. "The company's structure includes 18 plants, which gives us the opportunity to start developing a new metal," he said.

Roman Selin, Head of the Aluminum Association, emphasized that many aluminum solutions for residential housing have become widespread in Europe and will definitely be in demand on the Russian market. "Some building materials were imported to Russia before 2022, and their production should have been localized in Russia long ago. But it is difficult to invest in new production facilities now due to the unavailability of bank financing, so mastering the processing of aluminum tape by a leading manufacturer in its segment, without investing in new equipment, is a winning project for everyone," Selin believes.

According to his estimates, the segment of individual housing construction continues to grow steadily. By the end of seven months, the share of residential housing in the total volume of housing put into operation reached 71%, and in the long term, residential housing will account for at least 60%.
