Experts named popular tourist destinations among Russians

This summer, 9% more Russians traveled abroad than last year, Megafon analysts found after examining anonymized subscriber data. The interest in Africa and Asia grew the most, by 38% and 37%. This was reported by the press service of the telecom operator.

Turkey is still the main destination — the country is leading both as a vacation destination and as a convenient transfer point. It is followed by Belarus, Kazakhstan, Abkhazia and Georgia. Asian countries, especially Vietnam, have shown a significant increase in tourist traffic. China and Thailand also made it to the top three.

Russians most often choose Egypt from African countries. Morocco and Tunisia are also popular, with a 2.5-fold increase in the flow of tourists. In the Middle East, in addition to Turkey, the UAE and Saudi Arabia are among the top three. At the same time, there is an increase in destinations that are atypical for Russians: Bahrain (+32%), Iraq (+24%).

Of the European countries, Russians preferred Lithuania, Italy and Romania. At the same time, Poland (+32%), Monaco (+31%) and Ireland (+26%) showed the most noticeable growth compared to last year. Russians mostly fly to the United States and Cuba in North America, accounting for 86% of all trips to the region. In the USA, they began to travel 25% more often, and Cuba's popularity dropped by 20%. In South America, 60% of tourists choose Brazil and Argentina, and the tourist flow to these countries has remained unchanged.

Turkey's popularity for transit flights is growing — there are almost a third more transfers there, and Istanbul remains the main hub. Kazakhstan is in second place for transfers. China ranks third.: they began to transplant there 20% more often than last summer. The UAE holds the fourth place — there are 10% more transit flights through this country.

In general, Russians' vacations abroad have become shorter, but they have become more frequent, analysts say. If in the summer of 2024 the vacation lasted an average of ten days, then this year it was seven. At the same time, the number of trips per traveler increased by 6% this summer.
