The Thorn-MDM complex was used in the Kaliningrad Region as part of the Zapad-2025 exercises

As part of the joint Russian-Belarusian Zapad-2025 exercises in the Kaliningrad Region, the electronic intelligence units of the Leningrad Military District Army Corps worked out tasks for the use of the RB-301B Thorn-MDM mobile complex. This was announced on September 16 by the Russian Ministry of Defense.

It is noted that the fighters determined the coordinates and created a signal scheme for a simulated enemy. At the same time, before that, the scouts deployed the complex and camouflaged it on the ground, applying the experience of participating in a special military operation (SVO). Security posts also controlled the airspace from drone attacks. The mobile group needs no more than 15 minutes to prepare the complex for operation.

In addition, during the exercises, the military conducted a search and direction finding of enemy radio-emitting devices. After detecting the signal, the operators determined the enemy's concentration area, and then transmitted the data to electronic warfare (EW) and artillery.

The maneuvers will take place at the training grounds of both countries, as well as in the waters of the Baltic and Barents Seas.

Earlier in the day, Tu-160 strategic bombers flew over the Barents Sea with simulated missile launches during the Zapad-2025 exercise. The Russian Defense Ministry stressed that all flights are carried out in accordance with international standards.
