Sobyanin spoke about the restoration of facilities in Kolomenskoye
The tent Church of the Ascension of the Lord was restored in the Kolomenskoye Museum-Reserve. The restorers have several more objects in line, among them the Sytny Dvor building, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said in his blog.
The restoration of the 16th-century church, included in the UNESCO World Heritage List, took two and a half years. Special attention was paid to the tent: the brickwork was cleared of dirt and old coating, a biocidal treatment was performed, then primed, coated and painted, the mayor noted. "Thanks to modern materials, good vapor permeability was ensured, and the masonry will breathe," Sobyanin wrote.
The mayor stressed that the specialists intentionally left small losses and roughness, preserved them. "It makes you feel much more strongly that the temple will soon turn five hundred years old," he said.
The opening of the church is scheduled for the feast of the Ascension of the Lord in May 2026. Over the remaining months, the tyablovy iconostasis will be returned to the upper limit, and a new exposition dedicated to the history of the temple will be prepared in the basement. Andrey Leonidovich Batalov, Doctor of Art History, Professor, Honorary Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, acted as a scientific consultant on the creation of the exhibition.
In July, Sobyanin announced the completion of the first stage of a large-scale project for the comprehensive improvement and rehabilitation of the Kolomenskoye Museum-Reserve. During the work, an embankment-promenade with a deck was built, a restaurant with a summer terrace by the water and a cafe were opened on the quay square, next to which a swing was set up under a canopy. A "Wedding Garden" has also appeared on the embankment, decorated for ceremonies.
