Serbia will maintain a visa-free regime with Russia, despite the unification of its visa policy with the European Union (EU). Serbian Ambassador to Moscow Momcilo Babic told Izvestia on September 16.

"Of course, we will have a visa-free regime, I expect this. This is a matter of sovereignty," he said.

Earlier it became known that Serbia plans to harmonize its visa policy with the EU by the end of 2026. It was noted that Belgrade does not want an alternative to integration into the EU, but wants an equal position within the European Union.

On the eve of the celebration of the day of unity, freedom and the national flag of Serbia, Babic said that the country was under pressure because of friendly relations with the Russian Federation. Despite this, Belgrade will not join the Western sanctions, the ambassador stressed.

On September 2, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic expressed hope for strengthening bilateral relations between Belgrade and Moscow and stated his principled position not to support anti-Russian sanctions, despite pressure from the West.
