US President Donald Trump has claimed that Hamas allegedly moved hostages to the surface in the Gaza Strip to use them as human shields against an alleged Israeli ground offensive. He announced this on September 15 on his page on the Truth Social network.

"I just read a news report that Hamas has moved hostages to the surface to use them as human shields against Israel's ground offensive," Trump wrote, calling such actions a "human atrocity."
