The number of carjackings in Moscow has decreased by 19% since the beginning of the year.

According to the results of the first seven months of 2025, the number of car thefts in Moscow decreased by 19% compared to the same period last year. The Metropolitan Department of Transport announced this in its Telegram channel on September 15.

It is noted that the number of thefts has decreased by 96% in 13 years. So, if in 2025, from January to July, about 200 thefts and thefts of vehicles were recorded in the capital, then in 2019 this number was 1.4 thousand cases, in 2015 - 5.1 thousand, and in 2012 — 7.2 thousand.

At the same time, if in 2012 there were about 500 photo and video fixation complexes in Moscow, by 2015 the number increased to 1.3 thousand units, by 2019 — 2.1 thousand units.. Now their number is 3.8 thousand units.

Deptrans stated that these results are explained by the introduction and development of photo and video fixation complexes, which operate on 90% of Moscow's roads. They allow you to quickly transfer up-to-date data to law enforcement agencies and help car owners find cars.

The cameras track the geolocation, number and make of passing cars, after which the neural network automatically checks the numbers with the search databases. If a stolen vehicle is detected, the system sends data in real time to a single database of passageways and sends a signal to law enforcement agencies, after which the police intercept the car.
