Washington sent Assistant Coach Love on leave amid NHL investigation
Assistant Head Coach of the National Hockey League (NHL) club Washington Capitals Mitch Love has been suspended from working with the team amid an ongoing investigation. According to official data from the team's press service on September 15, the specialist was sent on an emergency leave.
"Washington Capitals assistant coach Mitch Love has been placed on leave pending the results of the NHL investigation. We will refrain from further comments until the investigation is completed," the team's page on the social network X (ex. Twitter).
According to The Washington Post, the investigation was launched this summer when the league's leadership received a letter accusing Love. At that time, the 41-year-old specialist was one of the main candidates for the position of head coach in the summer hiring cycle, and he was also among the final candidates for head coaching positions in Seattle, Pittsburgh and Boston.
According to a source in the league, Love's name became more and more prominent in the relevant media covering the search for new players, and it was then that the NHL received a letter that was simultaneously sent to one of the teams interested in hiring him. Love was not hired as head coach, and the league launched an investigation.
The Boxing Scene portal reported on August 30 that the World Boxing Organization (WBO) would launch an investigation into Ukrainian boxer Oleksandr Usyk, after a video appeared on social media showing the Ukrainian boxer dancing and playing soccer. At the same time, Usyk had previously asked to postpone the fight with the mandatory challenger, New Zealander Joseph Parker, due to back problems. After seeing the video of the athlete's active actions, the WBO expressed its intention to conduct a second medical examination of Usyk.
