Western pharmaceutical companies have asked the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to facilitate the resumption of clinical trials of new drugs in Russia. This was reported on September 15 by the newspaper Kommersant with reference to a letter from the Infarma association to the director of the FDA, George Tidmarsh.

"The Association requests the FDA to expand the geography of international multicenter clinical drug trials, actively involving Russia in this process," the letter says.

It is reported that Infarma is asking the FDA to take into account the results of clinical trials conducted in Russia in the global examination. In addition, the authors of the letter propose to conduct FDA inspections of Russian research centers.

The newspaper notes that the reason for the association's appeal to the American regulator is a decrease in the number of clinical trials of drugs conducted in Russia. According to Vadim Kukava, executive director of Infarma, this trend is related to geopolitical tensions, as well as problems with drug delivery and sample analysis. However, he stressed that most of the processes have now been adjusted and the infrastructure adapted to the current conditions.

Earlier, on August 14, it was reported that according to open data, 659 companies from the United States were registered in Russia at the beginning of 2022. About half of them subsequently left Russia. According to the head of the representative office of the American Chamber of Commerce in Moscow, about 250 companies from the United States remain on the Russian market, and 150 of them continue to operate normally, about 100 have changed their management to Russian and also continue their activities.
