The number of victims of a gas explosion in an apartment in a multi-storey building in Angarsk has increased to five people. This was announced on September 15 by Anatoly Sitnikov, head of the investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for the Irkutsk region.
"Currently, there is information about five victims, including one deceased," he said.
According to the agency's preliminary information, the cause of the incident was the improper operation of gas equipment in one of the apartments in the building.
A gas explosion in an apartment building occurred earlier that day. As a result of the incident, one person was killed. The governor of the Irkutsk region, Igor Kobzev, said that against the background of the incident, the ceiling between the first and second floors of the house collapsed. In addition, all doors and glazing were knocked out, and 10 apartments were damaged.
A criminal case has been opened into the incident on the grounds of a crime under Part 2 of Article 238 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Provision of services that do not meet safety requirements, resulting in the death of a person by negligence").
