The Higher Qualification Board of Judges of the Russian Federation (HCCC) recommended Prosecutor General Igor Krasnov for the position of Chairman of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation. This was reported on September 15 by a correspondent of Izvestia.

According to the legislation, the Chairman of the Supreme Court of Russia is appointed to the post by the Federation Council on the recommendation of the President after receiving a positive opinion from the HCCC.

Chairman of the Board of Judges of the Russian Federation Nikolay Timoshin announced on August 25 that Krasnov had applied for the post of Chairman of the Supreme Court of Russia. Later, the Higher Qualification Board of Judges announced that the acceptance of applications for this position had been completed and Krasnov became the only applicant.

Instead of Krasnov, Alexander Gutan, the presidential Plenipotentiary representative in the North-Western Federal District, has been nominated for the post of Prosecutor General of Russia.
