US sanctions against Russia have not achieved the expected effect, so the new package of measures will focus on Brazil, India and China. This opinion was expressed on the air of NBC News on September 14 by Republican Senator Lindsey Graham (listed as a terrorist and extremist in the Russian Federation).

According to him, "no sanctions have worked against Russia."

"Let me tell you that the [new] bill [on sanctions] is not directed against [Russian President Vladimir] Putin. Putin. It is directed against China, India, Brazil and other countries that support it by buying cheap Russian oil and gas," Graham added.

He stressed that the American side is unhappy that European countries still "do not want to follow this path."

"I believe that now it's time for the Europeans to adopt the approach of the President [of the United States Donald] Trump. To impose tariffs against those who buy cheap Russian oil and gas," the senator concluded.

The Wall Street Journal reported on September 10 that the European Union (EU) refused to raise duties against India and China at the request of the US president. The EU has stated that it does not use tariffs as a sanctions tool.

Later, on September 12, the media reported that the United States would continue to seek higher duties from the EU and G7 against India and China in response to their purchases of Russian oil.
