The Russian Industrial Zone (RPZ) in the Suez Canal economic Zone will become a convenient entry point for businesses from the Russian Federation both to Egypt itself and to the African continent. On September 14, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk told reporters on the eve of his visit to the Arab Republic.

In May, Moscow and Cairo signed an agreement setting out the terms of the lease by the Russian side of a land plot for a gas processing plant.

"The site is conveniently located near the seaport of Ain Sokhna, as well as relative to railways and highways. Work is underway to develop it and create the necessary infrastructure directly in the zone itself. Now we have gathered a group of interested Russian entrepreneurs, as well as representatives of business associations. We believe that the Russian Industrial Zone will become a convenient entry point for our business both in Egypt itself and on the African continent. During the visit, we will go to the site and see together, the Egyptians will talk about the advantages of their economic zone," Overchuk said.

He explained that the Russian Federation and Egypt have identified the main directions in which the industrial zone will operate.

"Therefore, companies operating in such sectors as pharmaceuticals, chemicals, agriculture, automotive, and mechanical engineering will be involved here. As a rule, it is important to attract an anchor resident or several large residents around whom their own industrial clusters are beginning to form. We are looking at such candidates," he said.

On September 15-16, the Russian delegation will hold talks in Egypt with the leadership of the country and the Suez Canal economic Zone.

Overchuk said that the Russian delegation will meet with Egyptian Prime Minister Mustafa Madbouli, Foreign Minister Badr Abdelati, Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development, Minister of Industry and Transport Kamel Wazire.

"We will talk about our bilateral agenda, including issues of cooperation in the field of energy. The construction of a nuclear power plant is underway, and there is an interest in further developing cooperation in the field of peaceful nuclear energy," he said.

The topics of the meetings will also include supplies of Russian grain, wheat, Egyptian food imports, and tourism development.

Earlier, on May 14, Anton Alikhanov, the head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, said that Russia and Egypt were discussing projects to create special terminals for receiving liquefied natural gas (LNG). According to him, during the visit of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi to Moscow, representatives of the oil and gas sector also took part in the discussion of this issue.
