- The Austrian Foreign Minister pointed to the advantage of the country's neutral status.
Austrian Foreign Minister Beate Meinl-Reisinger, who advocated a discussion on the country's accession to NATO back in late July, said on September 14 that she was not in favor of the republic joining the North Atlantic Alliance, and the neutral status "has an advantage."
"We are not a member of NATO, and I do not support joining NATO. <...> There are advantages to not being a NATO member. This is a definite understanding that it is always necessary to adhere to dialogue," she said in an interview with Bloomberg.
