Rubio to discuss possible annexation of West Bank with Netanyahu
During his upcoming visit to Israel, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio will discuss with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu the possibility of annexing parts of the West Bank. This was reported on September 14 by the Axios portal.
"During his trip to Israel, Secretary of State Marco Rubio is expected to discuss the possibility of Israel annexing parts of the West Bank in response to the planned recognition of the State of Palestine by many Western countries later this month," the portal writes, citing sources.
According to the newspaper's journalists, during this meeting, Netanyahu wants to find out from Rubio whether US President Donald Trump will support a possible annexation. According to Axios, most of the international community will consider any Israeli annexations "illegal and provocative."
According to two anonymous Israeli officials, Rubio has made it clear in private meetings that he is not opposed to the annexation of the West Bank, and the Trump administration will not oppose it.
"The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has warned the Trump administration and the government of Israel that annexation of the West Bank would significantly damage the peace treaty between the UAE and Israel and the broader Abrahamic Agreements," the material says.
Earlier, on September 13, the UN General Assembly approved the "New York Declaration" submitted by France and Saudi Arabia, which contains a "call for an irreversible path to the creation of a Palestinian state." 142 countries voted for the declaration, 10 against, among them the United States and Israel.
