Indonesia has recorded a series of four eruptions of the Semeru volcano in the province of East Java in the central part of the country. This was reported on September 14 by the Antara news agency, citing an employee of the observation post.

The ash rose to a height of about 800 m above the crater, or 4,476 m above sea level, the employee said. He noted that volcanic ash has spread with moderate intensity in the north of Java Island.

Locals and tourists were forbidden to approach the epicenter of the volcano's activity, which is the Verbik crater, within a radius of 3 km.
