Grandson of de Gaulle noted Russia's economic growth despite sanctions
The sanctions imposed on Russia by the EU countries have harmed European powers, while provoking growth in the Russian economy. This was announced on September 14 by Pierre de Gaulle, grandson of the first president of the Fifth Republic Charles de Gaulle and deputy chairman of the jury of the International Tolstoy Peace Prize.
Despite the sanctions, Russia's economic growth has exceeded 4% per year, Pierre de Gaulle said in an interview with RIA Novosti. In addition, he noted that inflation in Russia is under control, and foreign trade is balanced.
Earlier, on September 13, it was reported that the finance ministers of the G7 countries discussed at a meeting in Canada strengthening economic measures against Russia aimed at limiting its military capabilities. Among the proposals is the introduction of new sanctions and duties against countries that support Russia. On the same day, it was reported that the European Union officially extended sanctions against Russia for six months. It is noted that these restrictions are applied to 2.5 thousand individuals and legal entities.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stressed at a briefing on September 12 that Russia would respond with harsh measures to attempts by the European Union (EU) to appropriate Russian assets. She added that attempts to impose measures against Russia will not remain without consequences for all participants.
