Five F-35 fighter jets designed to combat drug trafficking in Puerto Rico, the dispatch of which was initiated by US President Donald Trump amid tensions with Venezuela, have arrived on the island. This was reported on September 14 by the Reuters news agency.

"Five American F-35 fighter jets landed in Puerto Rico on Saturday," the article says.

It is specified that the planes were seen landing at the former Roosevelt Roads military base in Ceiba.

In addition, according to the agency, the presence of American helicopters and Osprey aircraft, as well as US military personnel, has been observed at the base in recent days.

On September 5, Reuters reported that the United States intends to send 10 F-35 fighter jets to Puerto Rico to fight drug cartels in the southern Caribbean. It was specified that the fighters should arrive in the area by the end of next week.
