Germany tightened the issuance of Schengen and national visas to Russian citizens

Germany has complicated the criteria for issuing both Schengen and national visas to Russian citizens as part of the new 19th package of anti-Russian sanctions. This was announced on September 13 at the German Embassy.

"The Federal Government has tightened the criteria for issuing visas to Russian citizens. This applies to both national visas and, in accordance with EU directives (EU. — Ed.), Schengen visas," representatives of the German diplomatic mission told RTVI.

The publication noted that Russian applicants who do not have compelling reasons to travel should be prepared for longer and more thorough application review procedures.

However, the diplomatic mission did not specify whether these "serious restrictions" would apply to those Russians who intend to visit the republic for tourist purposes.

A number of countries, including Denmark, the Czech Republic and the Baltic republics, are no longer allowed without biometrics.

According to information published on September 13 on the website of the BLS visa application center, the Consulate General of Spain in Moscow suspended indefinitely the acceptance of applications from applicants for a visa.
