Georgian court arrests ex-chairman of Saakashvili's party for promising bribes
A court in Georgia has arrested Levan Khabeishvili, former chairman of the Georgian National Movement political party of former President Mikhail Saakashvili. This was announced on September 13 by Rustavi 2 TV channel.
"The court has chosen a preventive measure in the form of detention for one of the leaders of the National Movement, Levan Khabeishvili," the article says.
He was charged with promising bribes and calling for the overthrow of the country's state system.
It is specified that the court assigned bail in the amount of 25 thousand lari (more than $9.2 thousand) to Murtakh Zodelava, who was detained with him. He is accused of hiding Khabeishvili's phone, as well as illegally interfering in the investigation.
Earlier that day, a court in Georgia arrested former Defense Minister Juansher Burchuladze, accused of abuse of power and legalizing illegal income. It was clarified that in 2023, he provided the military hospital with equipment worth over $966 thousand instead of $ 1.4 million. The damage to the ministry amounted to more than $483 thousand. Also this year, he and his wife purchased real estate in Spain and signed a fictitious contract for the sale of real estate in Tskhinvali in order to conceal the origin of the property.
