The opposition staged a rally in Georgia calling for adherence to the European course
The radical opposition of Georgia gathered on Melikishvili Avenue in Tbilisi to hold a rally to urge the authorities not to deviate from the European course. Footage from the scene of the September 13 events is published by Izvestia.
"At these moments <...> the protest action of the radical opposition begins, which today calls on the authorities not to deviate from the European course. The protesters will march along Melikishvili Avenue to the Georgian parliament, and there they will appeal to the authorities," journalist Giorgi Jabishvili told Izvestia.
According to him, various leaders are also expected to speak at the rally. The protesters have already come to the election headquarters of Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze and are chanting: "Leave."
Tbilisi police special forces officers blocked almost the entire perimeter of the avenue and the route of the protesters.
Earlier, on June 29, former Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili called on his supporters to continue protests in the country. She assured that her only ambition is to save the state.
In 2024, mass protests took place in Georgia caused by the suspension of negotiations on European integration and the opposition's disagreement with the results of the parliamentary elections held in late October, the results of which Zurabishvili refused to recognize.
