Ukrainian gymnasts withdrew from FIG tournament in Paris because of Melnikova

Ukrainian gymnasts were not included in the starting lists for the qualification stage of the FIG World Challenge Cup tournament in Paris. It follows from the table on the website of the French Gymnastics Federation (FFG) on September 13.

On August 30, the President of the Gymnastics Federation of Ukraine, Irina Deryugina, told Forbes magazine that Ukrainian gymnasts may refuse to participate in these competitions against the background of the admission of Russian Olympic champion Angelina Melnikova to them. Initially, seven Ukrainian athletes were invited to the tournament.

Earlier, on September 4, Mikhail Degtyarev, Minister of Sports of the Russian Federation, head of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC), spoke about the expectation of the Europeans for the return of Russian sports. According to him, the removal of obstacles for athletes from the Russian Federation may be influenced by Russian-American contacts in Alaska and warming relations with Washington.
