- The Prime Minister of Finland reported damage to the country's economy from the breakdown of relations with the Russian Federation
Finland's decision to sever ties with Russia has had a negative impact on the country's economy. This was announced on September 13 by Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo in an interview with Yle television and radio company.
He stressed that the closure of the border with the Russian Federation has led to the fact that Finland has stopped receiving 10 million cubic meters of wood needed for the forestry industry. Orpo also noted that companies from Finland have suffered losses, having lost billions of investments in Russia.
"All cross-border transportation and trade have been stopped. Flights to Russia have been interrupted. And this creates uncertainty. All this affects the fact that the growth of the Finnish economy does not correspond to what is desired," the politician added.
Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council, said yesterday that at Helsinki's initiative, mutually beneficial relations between Russia and Finland had been completely destroyed. He stressed that these changes primarily affect ordinary Finnish citizens. According to him, they have received serious benefits from the development of bilateral trade and economic ties with Russia, and now they are expressing dissatisfaction with the policy of their authorities, which clearly does not correspond to their interests.
