- The media reported that 10.6 thousand Ukrainians aged 18 to 22 had crossed the border with Poland.
The decision of the Ukrainian authorities to allow men from 18 to 22 years of age to leave has led to an unprecedented number of Ukrainians entering Poland — 10.6 thousand people entered Poland from Ukraine in a week. This was reported on September 12 by the Polish newspaper Rzeczpospolita, citing a source.
"According to the latest information we received from the border, the decision of the Ukrainian authorities had devastating consequences for our country. Already in the first week of the new rules, an unprecedented increase in the number of Ukrainians of this age group entering Poland was recorded — 10.6 thousand people in the first week of the new rules," the publication says.
According to the newspaper, from August 21 to August 27, about 500 men of a suitable category arrived. And from August 28 to September 3, there are already 6.1 thousand. Thus, the number of Ukrainians between the ages of 18 and 22 crossing the border has increased 12-fold.
The situation is similar at other border posts. So, according to Ensign Pavel Smyk from the Nadbuzhan border detachment, the increase in arrivals increased 10-fold.
"We certainly need to observe, monitor and respond to this phenomenon if something goes wrong. However, I don't think this poses any threat to our country. Foreigners are being checked at the border," said Bartosz Romowicz, a member of parliament from the Poland 2050 party.
September 9, Ukrainian online publication "Country.ua" reported that after the entry into force of the law allowing men from 18 to 22 years old to leave Ukraine, massive layoffs followed.
On September 3, Verkhovna Rada deputy Vasyl Mokan reported that 17-year-old boys in Ukraine were leaving the country en masse before being registered for military service. According to him, the decision of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, which allows men between the ages of 18 and 22 to travel abroad, is aimed at correcting the situation with the mass departure of underage boys. He noted that an exit permit for up to 22 years is designed to resolve this issue.
