An earthquake of magnitude 7.0 was recorded in the Pacific Ocean near Kamchatka. This was announced on September 13 in the press service of the regional Main Directorate (GU) of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Russian Federation.

According to information published in the Telegram channel of the department, a seismic event was recorded 114 km east of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, which has a population of approximately 162.5 thousand people. It is specified that the earthquake was located at a depth of 47 km.

The ministry stressed that the seismic event was felt in certain areas of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky and Vilyuchinsky urban districts, but no evacuation of the population was carried out.

The press service of the Kamchatka branch of the Unified Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) clarified that this phenomenon was recorded at 02:37 UTC (05:37 Moscow time). There was no information about casualties or damage.

An earthquake of magnitude 5.0 was also recorded on September 3 in Kamchatka. It occurred 233 km from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, and its source lay at a depth of 45 km. There was no information about casualties or damage.
