A UOC priest from Sumy region was detained in Ukraine.
Employees of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) have detained a priest of the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC), rector of one of the temples of the Sumy diocese, for allegedly correcting strikes by Russian troops. This was reported on September 12 by the Union of Orthodox Journalists (UOJ), citing a statement from the SBU.
"The SBU reported that a cleric of the UOC allegedly "monitored the locations of combat units and fortifications of the Ukrainian Defense Forces," the material says.
The publication does not give the name of the priest. The SBU also claims that "in order to collect intelligence information, the cleric covertly extracted it from parishioners, and then independently traveled to the area and checked the presence of military facilities there."
It is noted that the priest faces up to eight years in prison.
Earlier, on August 30, the UOJ reported that in Ukraine, employees of the territorial recruitment center (TCC) handed a summons to the priest who performed the funeral service for a serviceman of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). According to the UOJ, Archpriest Vladimir Glavatsky was the rector of the Mikhailovsky community in Piryatin. Now the parish has been left without a priest.
