A court in Dagestan has sentenced to 14 years and 1 month in a penal colony the culprit of an accident involving a passenger bus in which eight people died, including three minors. This was reported on September 12 in the joint press service of the courts of the republic.
"The court found the man guilty of the acts charged against him and sentenced him to 14 years and 1 month of imprisonment in a general regime colony with deprivation of the right to drive a vehicle for 2 years and 6 months," the Telegram channel said.
According to the press service, the defendant, who had previously been subjected to administrative and criminal penalties for driving under the influence of alcohol, got back behind the wheel while under the influence of drugs that impair reaction and attention.
The accident near the village of Novokokhanovskoye in the Kizlyar district occurred on June 21, 2023. The culprit of the accident went overtaking and collided with a truck in the oncoming lane. Due to the accident, the truck crashed into a passenger bus traveling from Moscow to Khasavyurt. Shamil Magomedov, the driver of a Toyota Camry, managed to survive the accident.
According to him, overtaking was allowed on that section of the road, there was no solid marking. Magomedov noted that he did not have time to complete the overtaking, moving at that moment at a speed of 130 km/ h. The driver admitted his guilt in the accident and apologized to the relatives of the dead and injured.
