Major General Benedict Roos will become the new head of the Swiss army, and Serge Bavo has been appointed head of intelligence. This was announced on September 12 at a meeting of the Federal Council (government) of the country.

"The Federal Council has appointed Major General Benedict Roos as the new commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces from January 1, 2026, and at the same time promoted him to corps commander," the government's website says.

It is noted that Serge Bavo has been appointed director of the Federal Intelligence Service. He will head the department on November 1, 2025.

Earlier, on September 8, Switzerland commented on the possible deployment of peacekeeping troops to Ukraine, saying that this in no way violates the country's neutrality. Ursine Bentele, head of the SEPOS press service, added that participation in international peacekeeping operations is one of the tasks of the Swiss armed forces, which is enshrined in law.
