Undermining the Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 pipelines would require resources that are available only to the special services of large states. This was announced on September 12 by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.

"Large-scale sabotage is simply beyond the capacity of non-state actors alone. It requires significant resources and equipment that are available only to the services of large states," she said during a briefing.

In addition, Zakharova stressed that the refusal of a joint investigation with Russia indicates that the West "has something to hide." She pointed out the contradictory versions of Western countries about the bombing and added that the investigation is trying to mislead the world community in search of a Russian trace.

"Russia is determined to achieve justice. We are convinced that sooner or later those responsible for the terrorist attacks will be punished as they deserve. And Western governments, which persistently hide the truth behind a screen of disinformation, themselves undermine the foundation of their own security and sovereignty," Zakharova concluded.

The newspaper Die Zeit reported on August 27 that German investigators had probably identified all the saboteurs involved in the attack on the gas pipelines. Law enforcement officers also identified links between part of the crew used to attack the yacht and the Ukrainian special services or the military.

On August 21, a Ukrainian citizen, Sergei Kuznetsov, was detained in Italy at the request of Germany, suspected of involvement in the explosion of the Nord Stream gas pipeline. Later it became known that he was the head of the group that installed explosive devices on the pipelines. The German Prosecutor General's Office declined to comment on his extradition from Italy, and German Foreign Minister Johann Vadefuhl said the investigation could lead to political conclusions.

Later, on September 3, Zakharova announced Germany's contradictory position on the Nord Stream case, since, despite allegations of Ukraine's involvement in the gas pipeline bombing, the German authorities for some reason do not expel Ukrainian diplomats from the country.

On September 8, Die Welt newspaper reported that the perpetrators of the pipeline explosion acted on the instructions of the former Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) By Valery Zaluzhny. According to the newspaper, German investigators are convinced that they have solved the case.
