- Russians were told about the rules of preparation for a conversation about a salary increase
Money is an integral part of an employment relationship, but talking about it often causes difficulties for both employees and employers. Some people want to earn more, others want to pay less. Anastasia Chernova, an expert at the PP Consult consulting company, told Izvestia on September 15 how to prepare for a constructive conversation with the management.
"Before talking to a supervisor about a promotion, it is important to honestly answer the question: are you ready for all the consequences of such a decision. It happens that along with the desire for a raise, fear also appears: more salary means higher responsibility, more difficult tasks, more workload. Not everyone thinks about it," the expert said.
Chernova drew attention to the fact that before talking with the head, it is worthwhile to understand the rules that exist in the company. The terms of the increase may already be specified in the employment contract or job description, for example, annual indexation or salary revision based on the results of the company's goals.
It is equally important to prepare arguments. It's not enough to say that you have more tasks. You need to demonstrate how your work has influenced the company's results, show specific achievements and figures. Also, according to the expert, regular working meetings can help to gradually introduce the topic of raising and avoid tension in the conversation.
Special attention should be paid to the so-called controller. This step can be useful if an employee receives an offer from another company, but it should be carefully considered and not used as a way of pressure.
"Do not forget that a manager can find himself in a difficult situation when a key employee comes with a competitor's offer. Emotions arise: from distrust to the desire to break up immediately. But it is important to calculate the consequences," Chernova stressed.
On September 6, in the Selecty study and hh.ru "The source code of an ideal job for an IT specialist," which Izvestia reviewed, reported that for the majority of applicants under the age of 25, a competitive salary remains an important factor, but only 54% of them consider it as the main criterion when choosing an employer. For specialists aged 25-30, this figure increases to 68%.
All important news is on the Izvestia channel in the MAX messenger.
