Illegal landfills discovered in Yamal tundra

Two unauthorized landfills have been found in the Yamal tundra. They were discovered by specialists of the regional department of land control. Both are located near the village of Uralets.

According to the <url> news agency, with reference to the Department of Public Safety and Civil Protection of the Novy Urengoy administration, volunteers helped to eliminate landfills.

The agency recalls that a large garbage dump was eliminated in the Priuralsky district of the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District. It was possible to start cleaning the territory only after the intervention of the supervisory authorities.

In mid-August, it was reported that mass inspections of municipal solid waste management facilities located near airfields had been launched in Russia. According to the REO, to date, inspections have already been completed at 141 facilities in 56 regions of the country: 117 of them have received a positive conclusion, and 24 have received a negative one.

Such surveys are necessary in order to determine if there are potentially dangerous concentrations of birds nearby and what measures need to be taken to avoid them.
